Anime Overview: Kanon

Monday, October 9th, 2006

Ok. I haven’t actually watched the first episode yet. I looked at the pre-OP and OP, then skipped to the end to watch the ED. I though I’d drop in a general summary and background info before I go into episode reviews.

Yuichi Aizawa returns to the city of his childhood after seven years. He can not remember what happened to him that seven years ago. But coming back to the place where it happened he starts to remember things from his past. People who he knew in his ‘past life’ are complete strangers but they are drawn together by fate. Kanon is based on a visual novel by Key made in 1999. Acknowledge not for it’s game-play but for it’s complex plot. Since then the game has been made into an anime twice. The first one in 2002 was by Toei Animation. The new remake which started airing last week is by Kyoto the very same one who did our much beloved Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. The animation quality is as expected from a studio as high profile as Kyoto. Kanon will be 24 episodes, longer then most of their works. I’m not sure how well the old series did but having put off an expected second series of Suzumiya to do this I expect alot from Kanon.

Watch out for the full episode review soon!
