summer’s over! spring/summer top 5
September 22, 2006 at 3:31 am · Posted by Jamie · (Visited 544 times)Ah, summer is ending and so are the 24/26 ep spring season shows. Spring brought a lot of outstanding shows…and summer just reeked. Anyway, let’s take a look at my top five listings for those two seasons, shall we?
5th – Tsuyokiss
Actually, I couldn’t really decide on 5th place as the first four are the only notable ones, so I decided to say Tsuyokiss as otherwise there wouldn’t be any summer anime listed all. Not that I’m saying Tsuyokiss isn’t good – I thought it was quite entertaining – even though many of you are spiteful game-players =)
4th – Strawberry Panic
So, what do I like about this anime? No, I am NOT a sad, fiendish, desperate, hikikomori pervert (not referring to any anime in particular). Hm…this is one of those animes where I had to force myself to continue watching after the first few episodes, which turned out to be a good idea as this shoujo-ai is really something. The character design is a bit old school but I’m fine with that. Although the plot is almost non-existent, the pairings are really quite interesting and fun to watch.
3rd – Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
How could I ever be able to forget this one? With all those freakish faces and killer lolis – man it’s heaven! Of all the arcs, I though the first one was the best as it was the most mysterious and least super-naturalistic. Possessed by demons? Psh – I thought that ruined the show, but the answer arc was pretty well thought out so in the end it’s still pretty good. The only downside is probably the voice acting, which I must admit is pretty bad. As I never played the game, I can say I can enjoy this anime much more than those who have played it, but after reading 60 or so forum pages makes me kinda upset that so many details were left out. Hah…
2nd – Ouran High School Host Club
The reverse harem/shoujo anime with the most unique designs I’ve ever seen, which leaves a lasting good impression. I never thought it was THAT funny, but I didn’t watch it because of its comedy. It’s just something that makes me feel good after watching, that’s all. Very, very refreshing indeed. Even though once again it’s not really plot-orientated. I doubt any relationships will really develop, but if they do, I’m rootin’ for Hikaru! Tamaki can continue being Haruhi’s dad. xD
1st – Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
Ah yes, all hail god-emperor Haruhi!! Haruhiism has swept me away like it has many other people. The story is awesome, the characters are awesome (c’mon – it’s Kyo-Ani we’re talking about!), the feeling it gives you is awesome too. Awesome… It’s so amazingly unique as well. Haruhi being almighty in such a way is so original – really hopin for a sequel, and for those novels to be translated already!! Haruhi’s energetic behaviour is so fun to watch, and Kyon’s commentary is just perfect. Koizumi just makes everything wordy, but I love listening to his rants and explanations which can be cleared up with few lines, instead of thirty. Yuki, the quite one who seemingly is a bookworm but is actually learning the behaviours of other people so she can adjust…When I first saw her I was like – ZOMG you eva thieves!! You stole REI!!! But now I realise how different they are – oh well.. Mikuru, the super-cute time-travellin gal who might even be Kyon’s sister/cousin/neice whatever. Tsuruya – my fave character! Nyoro-n! Her lines are simply megas – love ‘em all! Oh, and Asakura too! Too bad she was another data entity thing who was killed by Nagato (damn you Nagato…)
And thus concludes my top list for the spring/summer seasons. Now as they are all ending or have ended, let’s eagerly await for the fall anime…
